Leona Renee Henson, also known by her stage name Vane Starr, was born in Southeast D.C on September 17th.
Surrounded by the artistic native sound of the city and the early sounds of hip hop's Rakim, Doogie Fresh, Beastie
Boys, Run DMC and SaltNPepa, she was a very inspired child. Growing up with the sounds of jazz, blues, and funk playing
in the house encouraged Vane Starr's appreciation of different genres of music early in life.
Since the adolescent age of 13, she juggled with the idea of becoming an artist. Picking up the pen with
enthusiasm just to put it down again with hesitation and doubt. The sound of horns, drums and melodies combined with
lyrics remained consistent even haunting her.
She had thoughts of becoming a writer but the passion and yearning
to be on stage just wouldn't go away. Her dream of performing at sold out concerts and collaborating with other great musicians
has really just begun. Music is not just a part of her culture it's a part of her, hence the name "Vane" (vein).
It's incorporated in her every day life and in everything she does.
Vane Starr's music isn't engineered with the formula that most female rappers use. Instead of being layered with
"erotica", her style is unexpected, undefined and abstract. It's a stimulated city sound with rock, pop and
R&B. Vane Starr loves a good hip hop beat but its something about drums and a guitar infused that brings out a heightened
passion for sound like her song, Roadkill. Although she can be a very complex person with not a lot to say, it all changes
with the sound of a good beat.
She's here to collect an audience of weird "Hip Rockers"
who enjoy good music, in which she can relate. Creating and performing music for a life time is like saying "you have
to breath for the rest of your life". Her goal is to strengthen good music. Win or lose she can't stop making music because
it will come for her in the night. Performing at major venues, local events, and showcases is just the icing on the
cake. Further progression is just a beat away and the music won't stop for this star!
